Smoking was banned in all public indoor spaces in the UK in 2007. This includes all places of work. pubs, restaurants, nightclubs and other places of entertainment. Smoking is still be allowed outdoors, at home, in prisons, care homes and designated hotel rooms.

Those caught smoking in a banned area can face fines of £50. If you are in charge of public premises you can expect to face a £2,500 fine if you fail to stop someone smoking. You can be charged on-the-spot fines of £200 or Court Fines of up to £1000 if you fail to display no-smoking signs.
